General information

Scholarships offered to students in the PhD program who have good academic results and whose project is related to the field of energy or sustainable development and / or which meets the stakes of Hydro-Québec.
To be eligible, applicants must come from approved specializations or submit a project related to the interests of the Chair in Energy Sector Management or the e3 Hub. (ex. : e3 Hub, Chair in Energy Sector Management).
Students register in the thesis or the supervised project stream are eligible. They must be registered full time next fall and winter terms in a MSc program. Students who already received a scholarship from a chair financed by Hydro-Québec are not eligible.

Evaluation

The following criterion will be used to evaluate application files:
  • Academic excellence: 50%
  • Relevance of the research or intervention project to the specified fields: 20%
  • Ability to demonstrate the importance and positive impact of the project or the thesis on the society in which we live and on our future: 20%
  • Quality of presentation of the application: 10%

Application

How to submit your application

Send all the required documents in a single PDF document, before the competition closes, by using the online form. To connect to the form, use your @hec.ca e-mail address and the password associated with your HEC online account.
Application must include
  1. Hydro-Québec Scholarship Form
  2. Description of the research project: context, issue, objective(s), theoretical framework, methodology, contributions, timeline (2 pages max.) + bibliographical references related to the research (1 page max.)
  3. Application letter: this should highlight your main achievements, your objectives, why this scholarship is important to you and, if applicable, the project's relevance to the specified themes (2 pages max.)
  4. Curriculum vitae
  5. Copies of transcript - University level
If the application is not submitted as required, it will be considered incomplete and could be rejected without notice.
Note
- Applicants must add their official transcript that include grades received during the winter term.
- Possibility of renewal: Master's scholarships may be renewed once, and doctoral scholarships a maximum of twice, but renewal is not automatic. A complete new application must be submitted by the candidate to obtain a renewal. The selection committee will not give priority to a candidate who has already received a Hydro-Québec grant in the previous year.
- By submitting an application, candidates agree to submit all or part of their application to the Montréal Polytechnique Foundation and Hydro-Québec.
- Results will be announced by e-mail in the fall. In addition, scholarships will be awarded in two instalments, the first in the fall and the second in the following winter.
- Recipients of the scholarship will have to make themselves available to participate in an awarding ceremony organized by Hydro-Québec.
